Upper Mustang trek is a fascinating journey to the once ancient kingdom of Mustang, Lo-Manthang. This non touristry trek offers you the sight of unique blend of the Tibetan culture and the deserted landscapes.

The Upper Mustang trek itinerary takes you through the copper red parched valleys, eroded canyon and deep gorges. You will find the trails decorated with colorful prayer flags, mani walls and mudbrick houses.

The remoteness and inaccessibility of Mustang have preserved the distinct Tibetan Buddhist Culture.

It remains flourishing as it did many years ago. Mustang could be an excellent place to experience untouched Tibetan Buddhist culture. You can see its impact in arts, language, and architecture of Upper Mustang.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)
Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be met by our representative who will assist you with your transfer to the hotel. After settling in, you can take a leisurely stroll around the hotel area to acclimatize to the altitude.
Day 02: Trek preparation/leisure day
Today is a leisure day to explore the city and complete any last-minute preparations before the trek. You can take a guided tour of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath Stupa, or shop for any trekking gear you might need.
Day 03: Drive or fly to Pokhara (910 m/2,986 ft)
After breakfast, we will drive or fly to Pokhara, a scenic lakeside town located 200km west of Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will check into your hotel and have the rest of the day to explore the city.
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2,858m/9,375ft), 25min flight and 3-4 hrs trek
Today, we will take a short 25-minute flight to Jomsom, a beautiful Himalayan town located at an altitude of 2,700m. From here, we will start our trek towards Kagbeni, a charming village situated at the entrance of Upper Mustang. The trek will take 3-4 hours and will provide you with stunning views of the Himalayas.
Day 05: Trek to Chhuksang (3,050m/10,004ft) 5-6 hrs
Today, we will trek to Chhuksang, a quaint village located at an altitude of 3,050m. The trek will take us through beautiful landscapes, including barren deserts, and we will cross the Kali Gandaki River several times.
Day 06: Trek to Syangbochen (3,570m/11,200ft) 6-7 hrs
Today’s trek will take us to Syangbochen, a small village situated at an altitude of 3,570m. The trail will be mostly uphill, and we will pass through a scenic canyon and a few villages along the way.
Day 07: Trek to Tsarang (3,575/11,750ft) 6-7 hrs
Today’s trek will take us to Tsarang, a beautiful village located at an altitude of 3,575m. The trail will be mostly flat, and we will pass through several chortens (Buddhist shrines) and mani walls (prayer stones).
Day 08: Trek to Lo Manthang (3,840m/12,800ft) 4-5 hrs
Today’s trek will take us to Lo Manthang, the ancient walled city of Mustang. The trail will be mostly uphill, and we will cross the Lo La Pass (3,950m) before reaching Lo Manthang. Upon arrival, we will explore the city and its surroundings.
Day 09: Lo Manthang: Rest and exploration day
Today is a rest day to explore the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang and its surroundings. You can visit the royal palace, monasteries, and museums, or take a horse ride to the nearby villages.
Day 10: Trek to Drakmar (3,810 m/12,500ft) 6-7 hrs
Today, we will trek to Drakmar, a small village located at an altitude of 3,810m. The trail will be mostly downhill, and we will pass through beautiful landscapes, including red cliffs and unique rock formations. We will also visit the Ghar Gompa, an ancient Buddhist monastery, before reaching Drakmar.
Day 11: Trek to Shyangmochen (3,806m/12,484ft) 5-6 hrs
Today’s trek will take us to Shyangmochen, a small village situated at an altitude of 3,806m. The trail will be mostly flat, and we will pass through beautiful landscapes, including colorful rock formations and the Nyi La Pass (4,010m).
Day 12: Trek to Chhuksang (3,050m/10,004ft) 5-6 hrs
Today, we will trek back to Chhuksang, the same village we stayed in on day 5. The trail will be mostly downhill, and we will pass through several villages and cross the Kali Gandaki River a few times.
Day 13: Trek to Jomsom (2,700/8,856ft) 6-7 hrs
Today’s trek will take us to Jomsom, the same town where we started our trek. The trail will be mostly flat, and we will pass through beautiful landscapes, including the apple orchards and the Kali Gandaki River. Upon arrival, we will check into our hotel and celebrate the completion of the trek.
Day 14: Fly back to Pokhara (910m/2,986ft) 25min
Today, we will take a short 25-minute flight back to Pokhara, where we will have the rest of the day to explore the city or relax by the beautiful Fewa Lake.
Day 15: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)
Today, we will drive or fly back to Kathmandu, where you will have the rest of the day to explore the city, shop for souvenirs or relax in your hotel.
Day 16: Final Departure
Your adventure in Nepal comes to an end today as you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home. We hope you had a memorable time trekking in the beautiful Mustang region and carry back fond memories of your trip to Nepal.
